如果你不是通过feed reader(比如说live bookmark/google reader等等的feed reader) 来看这个blog的话,那么你应该会发觉我的blog其实留言数不高。

4. Interact with comments left – If you’re not willing to use your own comments section why would your readers? If someone leaves a comment interact with them. This gets harder as your blog grows but it’s particularly important in the early days of your blog as it shows your readers that their comments are valued, it creates a culture of interactivity and gives the impression to other readers that your comments section is an active place that you as the blogger value. As the activity in your comments section grows you may find you need to be slightly less active in it as readers will start to take over on answering questions and creating community – however don’t completely ignore your comment threads.

6. Be humble – I find that readers respond very well to posts that show your own weaknesses, failings and the gaps in your own knowledge rather than those posts where you come across as knowing everything there is to know on a topic. People are attracted to humility and are more likely to respond to it than a post written in a tone of someone who might harshly respond to their comments.

10. Make it Easy to Comment – I leave a lot of comments on a lot of blogs each week – but there is one situation where I rarely leave a comment – even if the post deserves it – blogs that require me to login before making a comment. Maybe I’m lazy (actually there’s no maybe about it) or maybe there’s something inside me that worries about giving out my personal details – but when I see a comments section that requires registration I almost always (95% or more of the time) leave the blog without leaving the comment that I want to make. While I totally understand the temptation to require registration for comments (combatting spam in most cases) something inside me resists participating in such comments sections. Registration is a hurdle you put in front of your readers that some will be willing to leap but that others will balk at (the same is often said about other comments section requirements that go beyond the basics). Keep your comments section as simple and as easy to use as possible.

If you are not reading my blog through feed readers such as livebookmark/google reader, you may be aware of the fact that I do not receive lots of comments, I myself do not leave comment at others’ blog that often anyway, why is that so? I find that other bloggers are facing such problem as well hence I think I am not the only one who has this problem. One of the main reasons is because tracking of the comments can be quite troublesome and sometimes compulsory registration makes it worse. However, if you are troubled with the tracking problem, I will suggest you to use cocomment service to track your comment as it gets quite mature nowadays. Firefox users can also make use of the cocomment extension to automate the tracking process. As this article is not discussing about cocomment I would leave it to you to conduct your own research about it.

I came across this article this morning and find it quite useful for bloggers (you may find the following not quite matching with the mandarin version, but mostly the same) if they want to increase the amount of comments.

I agree with this point as I did not really take this seriously. If you were to find out the responses that I made to comments, you might be quite disappointed because I normally reply to the comment’s author through instant messaging services. However, if he or she is not online or does not use instant messaging service, then only I will respond to them in comments.

Being nice is also an important factor, you won’t like to leave a comment to a post that is offending, will you? Usually I won’t in the sense that why would I make myself upset/frustrated reading posts like that? As for the posts that express your weakness, I agree to this statement because I did experience it before. Thanks for those who gave me words of courage when I was depressed/frustrated/upset.

#refer the 3rd block quote#

I didn’t make the effort to translate this point to mandarin because I find that it is quite lengthy (just like this post). As for the conclusion of this point, unless I have came across this kind of blog frequently (like those hosted on blogspot/lifelogger), or else I would not purposely register myself just to leave a comment. For example those bloggers that host their own blogs on their own web hosting, if you are setting up the registration rule to combat spam, IMHO, I would suggest you to look for other solutions rather than torturing your readers for going through the registration process and force them to leave their private details which they might find it uncomfortable.

I did not stop posting yesterday (well, the previous post is considered posted a day before yesterday) purposely as written in this post, I didn’t post up any post yesterday because I needed a break because I have been blogging quite frequently these few months. However, I think I will slow down the frequency of posts from now onwards. One of the reasons is because I will start having classes soon (holiday’s over soon).
